Recycling Facts Regarding Fluid Milk
Packaging in Nova Scotia
· The manufacturers of fluid
milk packaging used in Nova Scotia have been
working for years, directly or through
various associations, provincial governments
and recycling facilities, to ensure that
their packaging is recyclable.
·
The fact
that some packages contain a spout does not
hinder the ability to recycle the package.
·
It is unnecessary to cut the spout out of
the package in order for the package to be
recycled. This practice should be
avoided.
·
Nova Scotia dairies, through a Stewardship
Agreement with the Nova Scotia Government,
support the recycling of fluid milk
packaging throughout Nova Scotia. This
agreement provides for annual monitoring by
industry to allow the opportunity of
reviewing and adjusting system costs. As
well, as stated in the agreement, the
industry provides funding to Waste
Management Regions participating in solid
waste management and the recycling of milk
packaging. For a copy of the Nova Scotia
Milk Packaging Stewardship Agreement, please
